I saw this rusting hulk in Newfoundland in 2016 and thought some of the objects and angles produce an interesting contrast. The boat follows the same slope as the hill behind but whereas the hill has been there since time immemorial and will continue to be there long after I have gone, the ship’s past and future are so much shorter. The hill is still verdant in its role as home to a forest but the paint, superstructure and human presence has long been stripped from the wreck. How much longer will the shape of the boat be recognisable before the water eating away at its base completes its meal?
